Mahashivratri is one the largest and sacred festival nights of India. On this darkest night of the year, devotees of Lord Shiva (Shaivites) perform a night long Yagna, some chants the name of the lord and some just meditate, so that they could able to connect with that supreme head of God personality.

Stories behind this Maha-Shivratri

According to different mouths and scriptures, there are several stories. Some say that on this night Lord Shiva performed a dance of creation on which this whole world rests. Some say that on this night Lord Shiva tied the wed-knot with the Goddess Parvati, for the betterment of this whole world. Some say that a devotee performed a Yagna to make Lord Shiva happy.
